SAIMM acknowledges UJ Chair of Council, Mr Mike Teke for contribution to SA mining

Mr Mike Teke, the Chair of Council at the University of Johannesburg (UJ), was awarded the Brigadier Stokes Memorial Award at the general meeting of the South African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM) in Johannesburg on Thursday, 16 August 2018.

The Brigadier Stokes Memorial Award is presented to an individual for the very highest achievement in the South African mining and metallurgical industry.
Mr Teke was recognised for his achievements and contribution to the South African Mining industry and for his leadership role within South African society.
The Brigadier Stokes Memorial Award was instituted in 1980 by SAIMM to commemorate Brigadier Stokes’ influence in the South African mining industry.
The first award went to Harry Oppenheimer and since then the institute has bestowed the award on well-known persons in the mining and metallurgical industry.
