RIO Olympics athlete 2016

Rushwal Samaai (Diploma Transportation Management in the Department of Transport and Supply Chain Management in the Faculty of Management at UJ) is a long jump athlete who qualified for and is part of the South African team participating in the Rio Olympics this year. He is currently ranked fourth in the world in the men’s long jump. Rushwal won medals in his first appearances at the Commonwealth Games and African Athletics Championships in 2014, was the number one ranked long jumper in the world at one stage in 2015. He grew up in Amstelhof, Paarl, Western Cape and got involved in athletics in primary school.

Qualified for the finals at the RIO Olympic Games with a jump of 8.02m and took up the 9th position in the finals with a distance of 7.97m.
