R10M NRF plus R5M UJ Injection for Research in Condensed Matter Physics

UJ’s Physics Department was recently awarded R15m towards purchasing new research equipment for its Highly Correlated Matter Research Group (HCMRG) by the National Research Foundation’s (NRF) National Equipment Programme (NEP) together with co-funding from the UJ Research Directorate.

The leaders of this group and NEP co-applicants, Prof André Strydom and Dr Buyi Sondezi said they were delighted by the news and this was now the third time that Prof Strydom has been successful at NRF with NEP awards. They acknowledged the Science Faculty Former Executive Dean Prof Kinta Burger, and her successor, Prof Debra Meyer for their stewardship of the Science Faculty and support of the HCMRG in Physics.
