Describing his sentiments upon reaching a significant life milestone, Nelson Mandela said:
“I have discovered the secret that after climbing a great hill, one only finds that there are many more hills to climb. I have taken a moment here to rest to steal a view of the glorious vista that surrounds me, to look back on the distance I have come. But I can only rest for a moment…”
The University of Johannesburg (UJ)’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Strategic Services, Professor Derek van der Merwe will be retiring from his position at the end of April 2014. Prof van der Merwe contributed greatly to the life and success of UJ. He takes a well-earned moment of rest.
An occasion for the University community to bid him farewell will be arranged later in the year.
