Prof George Mpedi elected to to the Board of Governors of the International Association of Law Schools

​Prof Letlhokwa George Mpedi, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Johannesburg (UJ), has been elected to the Board of Governors of the International Association of Law Schools (IALS) with effect from 1 January 2018.

The IALS is an association of more than 160 law faculties / schools and departments from over 55 countries, representing more than 7,500 law faculty members. Its primary mission is the improvement of legal education throughout the world. The Faculty of Law at UJ is an active member of the IALS and this has helped the university immensely over the years in the quest to take the Faculty to the world and bring the world to the Faculty.

In 2017 Prof Mpedi, was awarded the Titans: Building Nations, Continental Award for Education and Training: Academic. Earlier in the year, he also walked away with both the South African and SADC Regional awards in this sector.

Professor Mpedi completed his B Juris degree (1996) and LLB degree (1998) at Vista University. He has an LLM in Labour Law from Rand Afrikaans University (now University of Johannesburg) and an LLD in Mercantile Law from the University of Johannesburg. He publishes on labour law and social security
