Press Statement on Incident Following Rain Damage at the UJ APK Library

Date: Mar 14, 2014 | News

Due to the heavy rains we have been experiencing over the past few weeks, a leak developed in an area of the roof on the second floor of the Auckland Park Campus Library of the University of Johannesburg.

On the 12th of March at about 7 pm, parts of a ceiling panel in the affected area collapsed . Unfortunately, some of the falling parts of the ceiling hit one of our students. The university immediately arranged to take the student to a local hospital. Thankfully, the student sustained no serious injuries and was discharged after only a few hours later. The Executive Director of the UJ Library accompanied the student to the hospital. The university deeply regrets this incident and is immediately embarking on the necessary repairs to ensure the safety of staff and students in the library.
