Our condolences to UJ alumnus “Simba” Mhere’s family and friends

The University of Johannesburg (UJ) community is mourning the death of alumnus and TV presenter, “Simba” Mhere who passed away in a car accident on his way to the OR Tambo International Airport on Saturday morning, 31 January 2015.

Zimbabwean born, Simbarashe Mhere studied BCom Accounting at UJ and went on to win the Top Billing presenter search competition in 2010. He became one of South-Africa’s most loved television presenters and MCs.

Says Ms Nandi Madadasana, who heads up the UJ Alumni Network: “It is with heartfelt regret that we learned about the passing of “Simba” Mhere. It is such a terrible loss. He was an inspirational young talent that captured the hearts of many. “Simba” was named one of the UJ Alumni Network Goodwill Ambassadors and played a key role in advocacy and fundraising programme efforts. I speak for UJ alumni as a collective, as a family. We have tremendous sympathy with his loved ones.”

Executive Director of Advancement, Mr Milcho Damianov says: “The passing of one of our alumni affects the entire University community. Our thoughts and prayers go to his family, loved ones and friends.”​
