National Science Week 2019 at the Faculty of Science’s Soweto Science Centre
The Soweto Science Centre at the University of Johannesburg’s Faculty of Science will be celebrating National Science Week 2019 from 29 July – 3 August 2019.
Theme: Facing harsh realities of climate change
The annual National Science Week (NSW) is a celebration of public understanding and awareness of science spearheaded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST). By its very nature, the National Science Week provides meaningful platforms for presenters to showcase science exhibitions, science shows, workshops and lectures to learners and members of the public, with a special focus on Grade 10 – 12 learners. The theme for National Science Week 2019 is “Facing harsh realities of climate change”.
NSW activities at UJ are hosted by Soweto Science Centre, a flagship community engagement program located within the Faculty of Science at the University of Johannesburg. The strategic mandate of the Soweto Science Centre is geared towards the promotion of public understanding and awareness of science with the view of improving the quality of science, engineering and technology education in South Africa. The core vision of the Soweto Science Centre is essentially underpinned by the notion that meaningful human capital development remains a key strategic priority for the fulfilment of societal and economic needs within the broader South African context.
