The announcement comes after Mary Waya was announced in June 2022 as the new head coach for the Namibia national netball team, popularly known as the Desert Jewels.

“It is always a privilege to represent my country especially on a big stage like the World Cup qualifiers. It is absolutely amazing. I started playing for the Desert Jewels in 2021,” says Gomases, a first-year Public Relations UJ student.

Both the mid court and defense players, Gomases and Mupenda have represented the Desert Jewels in the past; Gomases represented the team since 2021 and Mupenda in 2020.

The UJ 1 captain Kruger, is a BCom Honours Industrial Psychology graduate and Mupenda is currently a second year Public Relations and Communication Management student at UJ.

South Africa and Zambia have already qualified for the 2023 Netball World Cup which will be organised in Cape Town, South Africa.
