Honours Award at Society of South African Geographers Conference

The Society of South African Geographers (SSAG) celebrated a century of geography teaching and learning at tertiary level in the country at the 10th Biennial Conference which was held the Stellenbosch University.

James Gregory of UJ’s Geography, Environmental Management & Energy Studies Department was awarded a Bronze Medal by the President of the conference for his Masters dissertation entitled “Creative Industries in Johannesburg: Geography, Operational Characteristics and Linkages to Urban Regeneration” whilst Arno Booyzen and Shayna-Ann Cuthbertson presented their Honours research at the student leg of the conference.

Booyzen scooped the award for Best Honours presentation in the field of GIS/ Remote Sensing for his study entitled: “Estimation of canopy height in a complex vegetation environment using Sentinel-1 SAR”.
