FEBE Executive Management team stimulates academic partnerships in Nigeria
Members of the Executive Management in the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment embarked on a trip to
Nigeria with the aim of engaging with various institutions on areas of academic and research collaboration. Prof Clinton
Aigbavboa (Vice Dean: Postgraduate Studies, Research and Innovation); Prof Esther Akinlabi (Vice Dean: Teaching and
Learning), Prof Wellington Thwala (Construction Management & Quantity Surveying) and Dr Elizabeth Makhatha (Head of
Department, Extraction Metallurgy) visited Covenant University, (CU) Ota, Federal University of Technology, Akure
(FUTA), University of Abuja (Uniabuja) and University of Nigeria (UNN). The UJ delegates negotiated with senior
management staff – VC, DVC, Deans and HODs from the respective institutions.

Commenting on the engagements, Prof Aigbavboa says: “the engagement went well, with positive reception of the UJ team-
the Times Higher Education (THE) and Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings which is well known to the
universities, distinguishes and makes UJ a choice institution for collaborations.”

The key outcomes emerging from the discourse are a joint postgraduate qualification(s); co-badged degrees and the
Institutional Memorandum of Agreement (student, postdoctoral research fellow (PDRF) as well as staff exchange). These
outcomes are scheduled for implementation during the course of the 2018 year.
