Faculty of Management on Madiba Day 2016

Date: Aug 10, 2016 | News

The Faculty of Management (FoM) employees at Soweto Campus decided to pull their resources together to support two initiatives this year. Firstly, they assisted potential students to apply for their studies at UJ next year as this can be cumbersome and IT challenging for some high school learners. Ishmael Oratilwe, Nezaro Novela and Martin Weale assisted with and drove this project.

Secondly, the Faculty collected and delivered toiletries to the Carl Sithole Centre (for orphans). This orphanage is divided mainly into Bethesda House and Bethany House. Bethesda accommodates about 32 children between the ages of two and nine, and Bethany House is for older children, mainly for girls between the ages of 10 and 18 years. There is also a school on the premises, which up to Grade 8. The older children go to a high school nearby.

The group was welcomed by the manager of the Centre as well as the wife of the late Carl Sithole. After interacting with all, one of the social workers took the group on a guided tour. The Faculty at Soweto Campus is now investigating a long-term outreach and involvement with the Centre.
