Bronze for UJ student at the 2017 IAAF World Championships

UJ student Ruswahl Samaai celebrated a bronze medal win after an intense final of the men’s long jump athletics event at the 2017 IAAF World Championships in London on Saturday, 5 August 2017.
Samaai took the bronze with a jump of 8.32m. Samaai and his South African teammate, Luvo Manyonga (gold medal winner with a 8.48m leap), added to South Africa’s medal tally, sandwiching American Jarrion Lawson who finished second with a 8.44m jump.
Samaai and Manyonga represented Team South Africa in long jump at the 2016 Rio Olympics in Brazil.
Samaai also represented UJ and Team South Africa in the 29th Chinese Taipei Summer Universiade (also known as the World Student Games) with twelve UJ athletes and two coaches. The University Team SA departed for China on 13th August to prepare for the games.
The other UJ athletes are Ms Dineo Magagula and Ms Thato Letsoso (Football); Ms Lynique Prinsloo; Mr Cheswell Johnson; Ms Patience Ntshingila and Mr Reneilwe Aphane (Triple Jump); Ms Anel Oosthuizen (20km Walk); Mr Junior Makhatini and Mr Tshepo Lefete (110m Hurdles); Mr Andries Hlaselo (1500m); Mr Jeremy Andreas (500m and 10 000m); Ms Tsaoane Sebele (Botswana, 100m and 200m); and coaches Mr Karabo Mogudi and Ms Jabulile Baloyi.
