Botany Women in Science Competition

Date: Oct 16, 2019 | Faculties, Faculty of Science, News

In January 2019, the Executive Dean of Science challenged all women scientists in the Faculty of Science to participate in the Women In Science Competition to celebrate women scientists. The competition was about reflecting on how far women scientists have come, in recognition of the achievements of pioneers like Ms. Katherine Johnson, who received an honorary doctorate from the UJ during the Faculty’s April 29th Graduation in 2019.

To participate in the campaign, each department had to take a group photo of their women scientists. The Department of Botany and Plant Biotechnology won the competition; their photo themes were “Science is our aim but versatility our game” and “Jill of all trades, master of all”. Their win earned them a full-page advertisement in ISET SA Careers magazine and a “women’s tea” sponsored by the Faculty.
