Bidding open on art auction for UJ e-library

Private and corporate bidders have until 20 September 2016 to scoop up artworks by established and emerging artists, while simultaneously empowering thousands of students. The proceeds of the Seats of Knowledge auction will support the University of Johannesburg’s (UJ) e-library, planned as the premier digital and electronic library in Africa. The University commissioned 101 artworks, which include innovative chair design as well as other artistic interpretations of the theme ‘Seats of Knowledge’ from established and emerging artists in Gauteng.

Artists contributing artworks include Gordon Froud, Lehlohonolo Mkhasibe, Guy du Toit, Boitumelo Mazibuko, Craig Muller, John Yannis Generalis, Melissa Generalis, Eric du Plan, Sybrand Wiechers, Lothar Bottcher, Izanne Wiid, Sally Rumball, Ana Pather, Annali Dempsey, Heather Cunningham and Gregory James. In partnership with the National School of the Arts (NSA), 72 of the artworks were created by young, emerging artists.

Place an online bid for your exclusive design and help UJ raise funds to establish its Library as the premier electronic and digital library in Africa. Bidding is open until Tuesday, 20 September 23:59pm.

Says Dr Rookaya Bawa, Executive Director of the UJ Library and Information Centre: “The Seats of Knowledge digital auction is inspired by UJ students who simply have to be successful in their studies. The e-library, which will gives access to wide-ranging digital resources, is the space helping students to succeed.”
