On 02nd October 2018, The Psychology Student Forum (PSF) together with the Psychology Department hosted its first ever inaugural annual students' conference. The theme of the conference was the importance of research. The conference served to encourage students, particularly undergraduates, to present their research interests and ideas among peers. The students presented research ideas from Personality Psychology, Psychological disorders, Mental health and Music, Trauma, Climate change and Mental Health and Psychosocial effects of student accommodation, just to name a few. Among others, panelists included the department's post-doctoral fellows, Dr's Muhati-Nyakundi and Brubacher, head of the education department Dr Tumi Diale, Mr Muhammed Yaeesh Cassim and Ms Sindisiwe Dlala, representatives of PsySSA student division. Prof. Brendon Barnes termed the conference 'a milestone for the department' as the initiative was the result of a hard-working and dedicated organising student committee guided by Dr Sumayya Ebrahim of the department. The conference was the first of many and is an initiative that the Psychology Student Forum aims to continue for years to come.
