Biography

Mr E. Bakaya-Kyahurwa was born in 1958 in Uganda. After completing his Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering at Makerere University in Uganda (1986) he briefly worked at UGMA metallurgical Industry as a maintenance engineer. At UGMA he oversaw a cast iron foundry where production of sugar mills were done, an agricultural implements plant and a machine shop where various products were made. From UGMA Mr Bakaya-Kyahurwa joined the lecturing profession at Kyambogo University (1989) and later proceeded to Kings College London to pursue his Masters degree. After completing his masters (1990) he returned to Kyambogo University where he helped to teach and set up a refrigeration workshop. In 1992 he left Kyambogo University and joined the then Botswana Polytechnic (now University of Botswana) as Lecturer. In 2006 Mr Bakaya-Kyahurwa left University of Botswana to join Walter Sisulu University as lecturer. In 2009 Mr. Bakaya-Kyahurwa joined University of Johannesburg as lecturer and also to pursue further studies. He has under his belt a couple of journal articles and has presented at several local and international conferences. Mr Bakaya-Kyahurwa has helped many students achieve their academic dreams and has graduated 3 MSc students and supervised several Honours students. He has been very active in promoting the activities of the Department. Mr Bakaya-Kyahurwa is inspired daily by his spouse and their three children aged 23, 21 and 18. In his free time, Mr Bakaya-Kyahurwa likes to hike, ride and read scholarly articles or books.
