Academic Career Profile
Dr. Mavee is currently a lecturer at the School of Public Management, Governance and Public Policy in the College of Business and Economics at the University of Johannesburg. Dr. Mavee started her academic career at the University of Johannesburg in 2011. She obtained her Doctorate from the University of Johannesburg in Public Management and Governance, the title of her PhD research is ‘Variables influencing political alienation and civil society participation in local governance in South Africa and Mozambique’. She obtained her Masters (Cum Laude) from the University of Johannesburg in Public Management and Governance. Her Masters research focused on the role played by Civil Society Organisations in the policy-making process in Mozambique. She lectures Public Management and Governance on undergraduate level and supervises Postgraduate Honours and Masters students. She is responsible for the First Year Experience, Tutor Coordination and she is the First Year Programme Head at the School of Public Management, Governance and Public Policy. Dr Mavee is also involved in other committees such as Community engagement and Peer Mentoring.
She has supervised several Masters degree students to completion at UJ. Under her supervision, several BA Honours students have completed their Research Essays since her appointment as a lecturer at UJ in 2001.
She is a member of the Association of Southern African Schools & Departments of Public Administration & Management (ASSADPAM) as well as the South African Association of Public Administration and Management (SAAPAM). Dr. Mavee’s main fields of research interest include public participation, policy making and policy implementation and civic apathy. She has published various articles in scientific journals.
