Nomusa Dlamini, PhD (Food Science and Technology)
Dr Nomusa Dlamini is a Principal Research Scientist at CSIR, Biosciences. She has a PhD in Food Science and Technology from Texas A&M University, and in addition, also holds BSc Biochemistry and Biological Sciences and MSc Food Sciences degrees. She has done research in various aspects of agro processing and food science and technology, including food product development, nutritional analysis, processing of indigenous food products, and shelf life extension of fresh produce. Recently she has been involved on a project on developing nutritious and nutraceutical ingredients from South Africa's indigenous biodiversity.
Dr Dlamini has experience as a university lecturer in food science and technology subjects, has supervised final year and post graduate students' projects and students on industrial attachment. Dr Dlamini has also been involved in research and collaborative projects with industry, universities and various research institutes in Africa and internationally. She has several publications in regional and international journals and has presented at national and international conferences, as well as international project meetings.
Dr Dlamini aims to do research that has positive impact on nutritional intake and food security of communities, and is also passionate about training and developing human capacity in all spheres that will contribute to a better tomorrow.
