Iman Rappetti has spent many years as a journalist covering stories all the way from Mashad in Iran, to Marikana, South Africa. She has worked for the SABC, BusinessDay, Talk Radio 702, is a senior journalist and news anchor on eNCA and hosts #PowerTalk on PowerFM98.7.
Iman is happiest when telling stories that reveal both the hardships and triumphs of communities around SA. She enjoys having real and frank discussions about where SA is and what we have to do as concerned and involved citizens to move forward with wisdom, recognition and respect. She is also unflinchingly focused on holding power to account, whether it's a mining boss that's failed on a commitment to develop local communities, or a politician who talks a good game but who leaves their constituents behind.
She has interacted with celebrities, senior politicians and thought leaders, including Richard Branson, Oprah, Jacob Zuma, Thabo Mbeki, Deepak Chopra, Desmond Tutu, Winnie Madikizela Mandela, Thuli Madonsela and Michelle Obama but insists that it is always the conversations with communities on the ground, suffering or succeeding that are the most powerful and provocative. Those are the interactions that keep her head and heart focused on the job of activist journalism.
