The Teacher Training aspect of the work in the Soweto Science Centre is of great importance because the centre contributes to the great national need we have as the peopling in South Africa – that of skills training. When people are properly trained, the improvements that they bring to bear upon the work that they do, leads us as a country to achieve greater competitiveness. It is for this reason that it can be said that the SCC plays a huge role in nation building since the development of skills is one of our national priorities
Our workshops provide teachers with the educational support and assistance in mathematics and science teaching and learning content and skills, as well as other areas of professional development and aspects of curriculum development and implementation.
Professional development courses, school based support and special content focused presentations provided by qualified science faculty members are offered
Parents are encouraged to be actively involved in the learning process. Detailed reporting is undertaken and regular parents meetings are held. Mandatory parental involvement includes making a financial commitment to the centre for the year. There is a payment of R800 required form each learner for the year. The 1st payment of R550 is due upon acceptance and registration in January 2014 and the 2nd payment payable by the end of April 2014.
