​​​​Soweto Annual Conference

On 22 September 2006, the Faculty of Management at the University of Johannesburg launched the Centre for Small Business Development (CSBD). The CSBD forms part of and operates as an outreach centre to facilitate business development in townships. Since 2010, the CSBD has hosted five annual conferences under the banner of the Annual Soweto Conference with the aim to:
  • Facilitate information provision;
  • Provide skills training through pre-conference workshops (since 2013);
  • Identify small business needs;
  • Share knowledge, research and best practices in enterprise development;
  • Identify feasible business development projects for implementation; and
  • ​Provide a networking platform.
