Vision Statement

To be an internationally recognised centre of research excellence in constitutional, public, human rights and international law (focus areas)

Mission Statement

To produce advanced research in our focus areas, foster collaboration and engagement between academics and members of the legal community across South Africa and internationally, and to advance constitutionalism, human rights and the rule of law in Southern Africa more generally.

SAIFAC's daily activities compromise of 4 key components:

  • Production of a high-standard of academic research;
  • Development of a new generation of public-law researchers;
  • Organisation of seminars and conferences on cutting-edge topics;
  • Community engagement, including:
    • involvement in the Constitutional Hill debating tournament,
    • blogging and op-ed writing;
    • submissions to parliament on draft bills;
    • participation in public debates and contributing to law reform initiatives where these fall within our field of expertise.

    • SAIFAC is grateful to the Konrad Adenauer Foundation for its generous support over many years which has enabled many of its conferences and activities to take place
