The Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture (FADA) building situated on the Bunting Road Campus of the University of Johannesburg has suitable and sufficient venues for the offering of the practical and theoretical components of all Faculty programmes. Well-equipped formal lecturing venues are placed centrally in the building and are shared among departments and programmes. The Faculty also has its own fully equipped and dedicated art and design library.
The Department of Graphic Design facilities consists of four large studios and a centrally-located Apple Macintosh training facility with 28 seats. In total, the department has 80, high-end, i-Macs meaning that all students have access to digital resources and software throughout the day and afterhours. The computers are loaded with all the relevant Office software, Adobe Creative Cloud Master collection that includes digital imaging, illustration, publication, interaction, video editing, special effects, and web design software. The department also gives students access to thousands of professionally designed Adobe fonts for their design work. The computers are all linked to WIFI and students have free access to high speed internet on their own devices and laptops in our facilities.
Students have access to studio photography equipment and high performing cameras for their projects as well as digital scanners, light boxes and projectors for presentations and by arrangement are able to use facilities such as printing presses, laser cutter and green screens in other creative departments.
In terms of their academic work students have access to a variety of digital databases including BlackBoard, thousands of journals, e-books, a custom Faculty Art and Design Library.
