Submission Format: MP4, 40MB

- Section 3 – Written Component
Essay Question:
Write an essay of 300 words only, about a recent news story or article that had an impact on your life and how did it influence you or change the way you think about an issue?
Submission Format: MS Word document
- Section 4 – Departmental Assessment
Creative task: Constructing a three-dimensional model and drawing selected views.
Phase one: Using any cardboard (such as a cereal box, brown cardboard, or white Triplex*), you are required to construct a three-dimensional model. The concept of INSIDE-OUT should drive the design of the cardboard model. This model must only feature a cube, a cone, and a cylinder (all constructed from cardboard). No prefabricated items may be used in the model. The model should be built to a professional, neat standard.
Model making equipment that would aid you in your model making process includes a metal-edged ruler, a cutting knife for cardboard, a tube of clear Bostik glue, a compass and cardboard (such as Triplex, a cereal box or brown cardboard). The model must be stuck on a 200 mm x 200 mm square piece of cardboard. Consider the placement of the model onto the square base.
Use the keywords below to guide your thinking process when planning your model according to the INSIDE-OUT concept: Composition, the overlap and intersection of objects, relative sizes (proportion), angles and perspective, form, and negative space.
After you have constructed the model, take a clear photograph and position it on the left of the page in the provided square. Carefully consider the view from which you are photographing the model. It is best to photograph the model at eye level.
Phase two: In this phase, you need to draw the model you constructed. You are required to draw three views of the model. Draw a front, side and top view of the model from observation. Complete this phase using graphite pencils.
The model will be evaluated on neatness, creative interpretation of the concept and adhering to the model making requirements.
The drawings will be evaluated on the accurate representation and documentation of the final model in a two-dimensional format.
Submission format: Please use the submission format guideline to organise your creative task on a single A3 page. See layout below.
Either photograph or scan the completed page and upload it as a PDF file. Applications like CamScanner are available for free from the App Store or Google Play. When you use a phone to photograph your completed page, ensure your camera is parallel to the page. Please rename your file using your student number only (refer to your entrance selection letter to find out what your student number is).
Submission Format: PDF, 2MB
Disclaimer:
Submission of a portfolio must only take place once you have officially applied to the university and have been officially invited by the faculty to participate in the entrance selection portfolio process.
You will be informed by means of an official entrance selection letter from the faculty regarding the portfolio requirements and the submission process.
No emailed portfolios (or part thereof) will be accepted.
Applicants will be informed of the outcome of the entrance selection portfolio process in an official letter from the faculty.
