Caroline Azionya lectures strategic communication in the School of Communication at UJ. She has lectured on the degree and diploma offered in the Department of strategic communication. Prior to 2008 she worked in the private sector as a consultant in the strategic communication industry with various clients from the financial services, telecommunications and government sectors. Her research interests include generational theory, digital and value creation.

Excellence in Teaching/Awards and Recognition
- Pioneered an innovative authentic teaching model in the Department of Strategic Communication which involves curriculum based community involvement and a collaboration with the Direct Marketing Association and the Department of Graphic Design at UJ. The concept was developed further collaboratively with a colleague Anna Oksiutycz from the Department of Strategic Communication and Christa Van Zyl from the Department of Graphic Design. The initiative has catalysed broader involvement and influenced programme delivery. (2011 to present)
- The collaboration with the International Organisation for Migration attracted the attention of the European Commission. The teaching model has been identified as a best case example and will be used in the formation of policy around counter trafficking activities and funding. (2014)
- The initiative has won the most awards in the School of Communication and the Department of Strategic Communication [over 14] Assegai Student Awards for the past five years. (2010 – 2018), an Ignition Student Award (2015), and a gold Prism in the student category (2017).
- Recognition of excellence in teaching by the IOM (2015).
