Unleashing UJ’s four core values at Battle4UJ with Monster Energy
Monster Energy Drink partnered with UJ Alumni to take the latest Battle4UJ to the next level. The much-anticipated event allows UJ students to let down their hair, enjoy some of the top local hip-hop and house musicians and connect with the four UJ core values: imagination, regeneration, conversation and ethical foundation.
Monster Energy is well known for its maverick approach to advertising. Rather than going the traditional route, with television campaigns, radio spots or big billboards, Monster choose to sponsor people doing awesome things instead. From supporting athletes so that they can turn their passion into a career to putting on concerts so that bands can reach their biggest fans, Monster are dedicated to supporting those living on the edge, living the dream, and living the Monster lifestyle. Their instantly recognizable claw-mark M logo has become a sign of great times to be had around the world, whether it is at a high-octane extreme sports event or even at Battle4UJ.
Battle4UJ has become a renowned event on the UJ pre-alumni calendar, and a chance for the alumni team to engage with the pre-alumni before they become Alumni of UJ. In the second semester of 2015, Battle4UJ was hosted at the Auckland Park Kingsway campus, Doornfontein Campus and Soweto Campus. A huge crowd gathered at each Battle4UJ, enjoying Monster Energy drinks all wile celebrating UJ's four core values. UJ's own hip-hop outfit Peace Maker were on hand to open each event and lay down the rules for the battles. The headline acts were: Kwesta (DFC), Busiswa (SWC) and L-Tido and Maggs (APK) with cameo performances from Biblos.
Thanks to our partner, Monster for sponsoring several cases of their signature drink to the battle winners as well as well as the sound equipment. Battle4UJ was a successful event that we hope to take to the next level into the future.
