​​UJ and Renault brought fun, feminine power and fashion to Joburg in 2015​

This year was a fruitful one for the partnership between the University and Renault, from student events to a showcase of the University's top design talent. The French car brand also powered the UJ Alumni Women's Day event, which featured local celebrities and accomplished UJ alumnae as headline speakers.

The theme of the Women's Day event was "Power and Femininity: A Balancing Act". With a variety of speakers, the event addressed the challenges still facing women in the 21st century. Although women's rights have advanced considerably, many women have to fight against society's stereotypical expectations of them to achieve their goals. There is also an internal struggle of how women perceive ambition and how it interacts with their view of femininity. The guest speakers were Roxy Burger, Nqobile Gama, Kabelo Moalusi, Nadia Nakai, Bonzai Shongwe, and Nkululeko Tshirumbula.

At Battle4UJ in the first semester, Renault was able to partner with UJ and bring their innovative Careoke campaign featuring the Renault Sandero and the Stepway cars. Students were given the opportunity to sit inside the cars and be filmed singing their favorite songs. Renault felt that this vibrant event was the perfect opportunity for them to engage directly to an un tapped market.

When combined with one of Renault and UJ's In Conversation talks, the UJ Fashion Show provided another platform for Renault, this time attracting UJ's diverse alumni as well as fashion fundis and the media. Past winners of the SA Fashion Week Renault Talent Search Laz Yani (Cutterier), Pieter Burger (Wake) and Zano Sitheto (Skorzch) were the headline speakers, offering insight into the business of fashion and everything that goes into producing and showcasing a new collection. The top UJ students from the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture exhibited their work on the night as well

It has been a successful year for UJ and Renault, and we hope to continue our partnership in the long term.
