UJ Arts venues 2016 release

UJ Arts & Culture is currently considering proposals for hire of the Arts Centre Theatre on the Kingsway Campus during 2016.

Proposals should be submitted as a Word document no longer than one page, and must include contact details of the organiser, a brief description of the event and a motivation for why the event needs to take place in the Arts Centre Theatre.

The 436-seat Arts Centre Theatre has a prime location on the Auckland Park Kingsway Campus of the University of Johannesburg. Access to the Arts Centre is directly off Kingsway (c/o University Road and Kingsway). The Arts Centre has its own parking area, with provision for overflow parking directly across the road in the University's visitors’ parking area, linked to the complex with a pedestrian bridge built over Kingsway. In addition to serving as a venue for UJ Arts productions, the Arts Centre also hosts visiting professional productions by South African and international production companies and artists, as well as concerts, exhibitions, conferences and cultural events.

Due to the high demand for utilisation of the UJ Arts Centre Theatre, the assessment criteria are now much stricter with regard to hosting events that are not formal theatrical productions or concerts in the venue. Therefore please carefully motivate why your proposed event specifically needs to take place in Arts Centre Theatre.

The deadline for submissions is 01 December 2015 and proposals may be e-mailed to theatres@uj.ac.za. Successful applicants will be notified by 31 January 2016. Any applications submitted after the closing dates will require a lead time of at least 8 to 10 weeks for processing in order to ensure compliance with the principles of corporate governance and the legal and management framework of the University.

Please note that UJ Arts & Culture receives far more enquiries than can be accommodated. All enquiries are therefore subject to an assessment process based on merit and potential to support UJ’s vision and the drive towards global excellence and stature.
