There are four performing companies based at the UJ Arts Centre, with additional programmes running on all four campuses covering various genres.
Although the University of Johannesburg does not offer the performing arts as a curriculum course, any registered UJ student can participate, provided they pass an audition at the beginning of the year. The selected students are trained by professionals who have worked in the theatre and television industries for many years. This is done while preparing for shows, which makes the experience and the knowledge gained applicable to the industry.
Many former students are currently working as actors, even though they do not have performing arts degrees. For more information, visit our virtual Hall of Fame.
