The Integrated Approach to Technology Assisted Learning, Teaching and Assessment

The Centre for Technology Assisted Learning (CenTAL) has the brief to make THE INTEGRATED APPROACH TO LEARNING, TEACHING AND ASSESSMENT a reality.

This approach determines that different modes of delivery, including educational technologies, are to be used in an integrated manner to enhance the student's learning experience. Some advantages of this approach are the following:

  • It is learning centred
  • It contributes to the guiding of students through the learning process
  • It aims to enhance contact education through its implementation by creating more and more diverse learning opportunities for students
  • By designing and developing different learning resources in a variety of mediums, more learning styles are accommodated
  • It adds value to the learning environment by engaging students more actively during learning events
  • More flexible communication opportunities between students and lecturers are created
  • More and differentassessment (with feedback) opportunities can be arranged, automatically graded, tracked and managed by using Edulinkpowered by the Blackboard Learning systemTM
  • A richer and more interactive learning environment is designed by implementing learning activities with feedback, supported by multimedia such as audio, video and animation on CD-ROM

Any lecturer who wants to innovate and explore a challenging but very exciting path in an integrated learning, teaching and assessment environment, is invited to contact us to book for the trip. Several customised and just-in-time professional development opportunities are in place; a description of these opportunities can be found here. We will support you and your students in many different ways and facilitate the design and development of customised learning materials. Student support includes formal orientation sessions for new first year students on Edulink at the beginning of each academic year.

Our team currently consists of a staff member focusing on project coordination, seven instructional designers working in clusters, dedicated to the different faculties, three instructional developers, a staff member focusing on the quality care of products delivered and several support staff members.

So please join us on this adventurous and self-fulfilling journey!
