Alternative Access Programmes widen access to higher education through intensive curriculum development which ensures that higher education curricula are responsive to the learning needs of a diverse student intake and enhance retention and graduation rates. This usually involves alternative admissions procedures, and the adjustment of traditional entry requirements (Council for Higher Education, 2003).
