 Therapeutic Services

Therapeutic Services Unit

The Therapeutic Services Unit of PsyCaD provides psychological services with the aim of attending to psychological issues through therapy.

These therapeutic services are usually rendered by way of face-to-face psychotherapy. In this process, the psychologist uses therapeutic techniques with which to address various psychological issues, such as depression, anxiety, trauma and relationship problems.

In the PsyCaD environment, the Therapeutic Team oversees the provision of face-to-face therapy with individuals, children and families. In addition, they also provide group therapy in the form of support groups.

Therapeutic interventions are not the only way in which psychological issues are dealt with. Such issues also are addressed through creating and raising awareness of issues that can impact on the psychological functioning of people. Such issues can, among others, be sexual orientation, gender issues etc.

The Therapeutic Services Unit also co-ordinates through its Team Leader, Mr Kgabo Mashaba, the 24 Hour Crisis Line. He is responsible for the smooth running of the project. In this he is assisted by the Team Leader of the Training and Development Services Unit, Ms. Trudie le Roux. She undertakes the supervision of the intern psychologists who man the line and who rotate on a weekly basis.

Some PsyCaD psychologists have volunteered to help supervise the intern psychologists on a stand-by supervisory basis
