Research in PsyCaD
PsyCaD is committed to research and has adopted a research culture since its inception in September 2008. Staff members at PsyCaD are therefore routinely involved in research endeavours. Research in PsyCaD is conducted at three levels. The first level is research within PsyCaD that relates to the services and projects it provides. This includes, for example, the 24 Hour Crisis Line, the Peer Buddies Project, the Faculty Liaison Project, the Student Needs Survey and the Job Destination Project. The second level of research is inter-centre research that includes partnerships within the Division of Academic Development and Support (ADS). This includes, for example, the First Year Experience (FYE) research initiative, the Students at Risk research project and the ADS Research and Ethics Committee (of which the Director PsyCaD is Chairperson). The third level of research is academic research and furthering of staff qualifications (such as Masters’ and Doctoral studies). PsyCaD believes that all research should be disseminated through publications in peer-reviewed and accredited journals and/or through conference presentations. In 2010 the Director PsyCaD, Professor Gertie Pretorius, achieved a C rating by the National Research Foundation. This is a significant achievement. Research disseminated by PsyCaD staff can be viewed using the link below.
