 24 Hour Crisis Line 


The 24 Hour Crisis Line is a free service. UJ students, staff and the community may make use of it. People may call the Crisis Line any time of day or night in cases of emergency. They will speak with the intern psychologist on duty for assistance in a crisis.

This free service offers to users:

  • telephone counselling
  • referrals to other emergency services
  • recommendations and referrals to various other organisations that can assist with a problem.


What is a crisis?

A crisis is seen to be any of the following:

  • Emotional crises such as suicide, depression, anxiety, panic and general psychological problems.
  • Problems with adjusting to university.
  • Health crises such as emergency medical care, possible HIV infection and/or unexpected pregnancy.
  • Safety crises such as hijacking, mugging, rape or sexual assault and robbery.
  • Violations of human dignity such as abuse, intimidation, bullying etc.
