Benjemijn Ladies Residence is one of the most prestigious female residences on the UJ Auckland Park Campus known for its excellence in academic distinction, “Vroulikheid”- (Femininity) and perseverance to always achieve the very best that we can. We are a sisterhood who stand together in everything we do and the girls you meet really become your extended family. Over the years a true Benje Babe will be one for life and it is amazing to meet old Benjies who, when you speak to them, feels like you have known them forever – simply because you lived in the same ‘home’.
Our traditions revolve around Greek origins, all our corridors, the braai area, and community hall are named after the Greek Islands and landmarks. We have a statue in our garden which according to tradition the other men’s residences come to kidnap and it’s always good fun to steal her back. It is within these traditions and values that we find unity and common ground amongst our diverse cultures.
Our motto is “Vroulikheid met ’n tikkie andersheid”- “Femininity with a touch of difference”. We believe in excelling as true ladies and preparing ourselves for the working life. However, we also believe in having a well rounded student-life experience and find ourselves able to organise and attend parties and functions on campus, but you will hear more about this later.
We have existed and excelled progressively since 1976. Throughout this period we have been known to win numerous trophy’s including the Academic Trophy, Rag, Serrie, 1st Years Athletics, Sangfees, First Years Concert, just to name a few!
