Our tradition of adventure in all fields, being socially active and achieving academically lies locked in our identity of Greek passion and dedication. Our academic achievements are the most obvious proof that we can boast with this. Up to the end of 2005, Benjemijn received the Chancellor's Trophy for the best academic residence 20 times out of 26. We also took the Vice-Chancellor's Trophy for the best residence on campus 20 times out of 26.
And we perform well in whatever we get involved. It's no wonder then that year after year we produce Student Representative Council member, UJ Rag Committee members and SRC sub-committee members. Furthermore, we have won the Leadership Trophy 8 years in a row.
And it' no different in the cultural field. We participate whole-heartedly in everything – from the first-year student concert to the annual serrie competition, drama and the song festival. And we excel – we participated in the National Sêr competition in 2005 and won the trophy for the best ladies culture house on campus.
However, if sport is your forte, Benjemijn is certainly the right choice for you. We participate in a wide variety of sport throughout the year – both at social and provincial levels – including athletics, netball, hockey, squash, volleyball – oh, too many to mention here. You name it and we will do it. And that is without mentioning the numerous UJ and SA athletes that Benjemijn has produced.
Our socials are unforgettable
If you have not yet been able to make you choice, we are convinced that our socials will do the trick. We hold thematic functions, formal dinners, "Citizenship" functions, Wednesday evening dancing socials, blok socials, Valentine's Day and Spring Day functions, camps, ice-cream evenings, a festival week, cocktail evenings, to name but a few past-times. And Rag (remember and give) will crown it all – because it will leave you with special memories every year, especially if you are a first-year student. The building of the float and the fun of Rag as well as the community service contributions will definitely rob you of your precious sleep. From the SPCA to the Children's Home receive visits from Benjemijn and we also collect food and old clothes for the less privileged and everyone knows that this passion is proof that our hearts is in the right place!
