Background
Dale Lace Residence first opened its doors for former TWR students in 1996 as a female residence. The building was formerly an old-age home. 102 female students had occupied the residence until December 2002.
The residence is situated at the Doornfontein Campus at corner Davies and Sarotoga Street. It is less than 500m off campus. There is a student route from the residence to the campus which is relatively safe for students to go to and from the campus. For historical purposes there is a church monument situated in the yard of Dale Lace. The monument also serves to demonstrate how long the residence had been in existence.
Dale Lace currently houses 107 male students from various provinces in South Africa and from other nations around Africa. The residence is predominantly occupied by mining students who are sent by various mining companies around the country. Less than 10% of the student population in the residence is self-paying.
