The Story
DNA barcoding is a relatively new idea. The question is how do we dramatise the critical importance of this scientific odyssey?
Considering that the benefits of this process are many – from cataloguing to conservation to potential cloning – and will lead to a far greater and deeper understanding of the fundamentals of life upon our planet, we have placed the work that is being done within DNA barcoding as a major breakthrough in the continuum from when life began, through today, and way into the future.
Whilst the work that has to date been done by the researchers at UJ will not necessarily win a Nobel Prize, their contribution to a global major scientific breakthrough is undeniable.
