1. Payment during Registration
The full fees are payable when an international student arrives for registration. Unfortunately no exceptions can be made. The following fees are payable: Registration fee, Tuition fee and International levy. Please note that as of January 2010 ALL international students (Refugees and Asylum Seekers included) are expected to pay their fees upfront.
Registration fee
All students (local and international) who register at the University of Johannesburg need to pay a non-refundable registration fee per registration cycle. The following fees are also payable during registration.
2. International levy
All international students are required to pay an international levy in addition to the Registration fee and tuition fee during Registration:
Undergraduate (SADC and African Countries) – R1500.00
Undergraduate (Other Countries) – R34000.00
Post Graduate – R1500.00
Extra Curricular and Short Courses - R700.00
Exchange Students, Diplomats, Refugees, Asylum Seekers - NONE
3. Exchange students
The registration fee, tuition fee and the international levy are waived for students participating in official University of Johannesburg exchange agreements. However, the student is financially liable for any subjects taken outside of that agreement.
4. Non-degree studies (Practical training students)
Practical - these students register for 3 - 5 months. As they attend no classes only an international levy of R5 000 is applicable. This is regarding degree studies only.
An international levy of R1 300 is applicable to students from African countries.
5. Affiliate studies
To be affiliated to the University of Johannesburg for research purposes the student should be registered for a Masters' or Doctoral degree at his/her home university. A required fee of R5500.00 international levy as well as R1 000 to the relevant academic department for every month spent on campus is payable.
6. Financial Assistance
Unfortunately financial assistance is only available to permanent residents of South Africa. However, Merit bursaries are automatically awarded to deserving full-time international students from SADC-countries from their second year of study at the Kingsway Campus of UJ.
International students who have obtained excellent scores in their first year of study at UJ should apply for these merit bursaries.
All foreigners are eligible for Postgraduate merite bursaries and should apply for it.

7. Payment
It is dangerous to carry a huge amount of cash on your person, therefore it is recommended that payments for registration are made directly into the University account. This can also be done from a bank in your own country that deals with foreign transactions.

Remember to bring the deposit slip with you when coming to the University. It is important that you make a copy of this deposit slip for your own records.
NB: It is important that you put down your student number on the deposit slip where a reference is required.
All payments will reflect on your student account within one week.
