Welcome to the Research and Innovation Division (RID)
The University of Johannesburg has benefited from a large pool of researchers bringing together various fields of expertise and research focus areas. The University provides the ideal ground for interdisciplinary research and currently has 114 rated researchers. Six of these researchers are A-rated – all of whom are recognised as world leaders in their field. UJ is also home to twenty-two research centres.

During the past five years, UJ's research strategy has focused on developing nationally and internationally competative and sustainable research focusing on its people and infrastructure. One result is that UJ now ranks among the top six residential universities in terms of accredited research output. UJ is well on its way to position itself at the upper end of universities with middle-level research productivity, immediatly below the top five South African institutions; no small feat considering that UJ does not have a medical faculty.
