Nationally there is a need to increase the number of postdoctoral fellows in South Africa. Postdoctoral fellows play a critical role in research activities across the entire academic landscape. There are benefits to both the fellows and the university. Contributions made by postdoctoral fellows add value to the research of the University and also provide recent Doctoral graduates with an opportunity to do research after the Doctoral degree in a different academic environment - sometimes another country - for two or three years.
At UJ, the provision of postdoctoral fellowships supports and encourages research and contributes towards the university’s strategic goal of conducting internationally competitive research.
