The SAPS has provided University authorities with a list of names of suspected bogus doctors and UJ is investigating whether student sick notes from names on the SAPS list have been submitted to faculties, departments or lecturers.
This comes in response to allegations that a number of students may have presented false sick notes before tests or examinations which could qualify them for supplementaries.
After the police investigation and the University’s own internal enquiries, UJ will fast-track disciplinary hearings in the case of all students who are suspected of submitting bogus sick notes. The SAPS investigation will continue.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adam Habib says UJ will do whatever is necessary to ensure the integrity of its internal processes and will not tolerate breeches of University protocols to which all UJ students are bound.
“We take all allegations of unethical student behaviour extremely seriously and we will leave no stone unturned to get to the bottom of this particular matter.”
