Six University of Johannesburg (UJ) employees received awards for their research, hard work and dedication, at the annual Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Awards function on Wednesday, 09 November 2011.
The Vice-Chancellor’s Awards categories were Teaching, Research and Innovation as well as Exceptional Service by support staff, going beyond the call of duty.
Prof Bheki Mamba from the Department of Chemical Technology (Faculty of Science) won the VC’s Distinguished Award for Researcher of the Year. Additionally three academics received the VC’s Distinguished Teacher Awards: Prof Nathalie Hyde-Clarke from the Department of Communication and Media Studies (Faculty of Humanities), Prof Ben Marx from the Department of Accountancy (Faculty of Economic and Financial Sciences) and Ms Tracey McKay from Department of Geography, Environmental Management and Energy Studies (Faculty of Science).
Dr Ernst Joubert from the Department of Mathematics (Faculty of Science) walked away with the VC’s Distinguished Award for Most Promising Young Researcher of the Year.
Awards bestowed on support staff for exceptional service, going beyond the call of duty, went to: Ms Teolene Foster from UJ’s HIV/Aids Unit and Ms Sanpat Coetzee from UJ Sport.
