UJDigispace lets you save, share, and search research data in an institutional repository. This page outlines the features the service provides.
University of Johannesburg Open Access mandate
UJ has accepted an Open Access mandate that states that:
The University of Johannesburg wishes to provide open access to publicly funded research output produced by UJ students and staff.
• Research output submitted to the Research Office for subsidy purposes will be forwarded to
the University of Johannesburg institutional repository.
• UJLIC will seek permission to preserve research output in digital format.
Copyright compliance will be adhered to i.e. access to full-text articles will be subject to permission of publishers. Access will not be provided if permission is in doubt or not available. Short term embargoes by publishers will also be adhered to.
The university encourages the publication of research articles in accredited open access journals.
UJ's Institutional Repository
UJDigispace is a multidisciplinary digital archive which provides access to the university research output through one interface. It is organized into communities, sub-communities, and collections, each of which retains its identity within the repository.

Search and Retrieval
The UJDigispace process allows for the description of each item using a qualified version of the Dublin Core metadata schema. These descriptions are entered into a relational database, which is used by the search engine to retrieve items.
