Protecting yourself in Cyberspace
R 42 million later - What happened at the PostBank?
This presentation will briefly investigate the:
- present status of Cyber Crime internationally, in Africa and in South Africa
- the risks involved when venturing into Cyber space such as Identity Theft when using the Internet
- ways to protect and secure yourself ( privacy, identity, money, etc)
- the golden rules of ‘safe surfing’
Prof SH (Basie) von Solmsis a Research Professor in the Academy for Information Technology at the University of Johannesburg in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Professor von Solms specializes in research and consultancy in the area of Information and Cyber Security. He is the Immediate Past President of the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) (www.ifip.org). He has been a consultant to industry on the subject of Information and Cyber Security for the last 15 years, and has consulted in this area locally and internationally.
He is a Fellow of the Computer Society of South Africa, and a Fellow of the British Computer Society.
