We are a thriving department of 77 people, including 12 lecturing and 9 support staff (administrative and technical) as well as 56 graduate students studying for Honours, MSc. or PhD degrees. The number of undergraduates studying our courses has grown steadily in recent years so that our final year class for zoology and human physiology consists of more than 30 students in each class. We have a very strong research history with almost 50% of staff members being rated as scientists with the National Research Foundation. Over the past five years, our work has been published in more than 40 different international and national peer review journals. Our research also features regularly in popular science magazines such as BBC Wildlife Magazine, as well as on national radio and television.
