 Background 


The Faculty of Science comprises of fourteen departments, namely: Academy of Computer Science and Software Engineering; Applied Mathematics; Biochemistry; Biotechnology; Botany & Plant Biotechnology; Chemistry; Chemical Technology; Food Technology; Geography, Environmental Management & Energy Studies; Geology; Mathematics; Physics; Statistics and Zoology. Non-academic units housed in the faculty include SPECTRAU (an analytical research facility), The Faculty Workshop and the Glass Blower Unit. The current Faculty of Science presents a variety of programmes at two campuses, namely Auckland Park Kingsway (APK) and Doornfontein (DFC).
