In order to address the current low levels of technical business and entrepreneurial skills in our South African business context, the University of Johannesburg's Faculty Management has established a premier African Business School. The Faculty, committed to expanding its boundaries with ground-breaking initiatives, recognised the critical need to address the facilitation and establishment of a development strategy that directly focused on the business needs of the community it serves. South Africa is a unique context in the development of small to medium businesses and entrepreneurship, and requires a unique game plan to ensure sustainable business development in a disenfranchised society. A direct result of this kind of critical thinking was the establishment of the Soweto Centre for Small and Medium Enterprise Development on the Soweto Campus of
