Applicants should complete an application form and submit it as soon as possible, together with the following: 

i) A letter of application, no more than one page in length, explaining why you want to be considered for the honours programme.

ii) Your curriculum Vitae

iii) A certified and complete and up to date copy of your academic record (transcript)

The names and full contact details of at least two people who have agreed to provide a reference for you; at least one of these should be a university lecturer who can comment on your academic record. Please include their email addresses, fax numbers and all available telephone numbers.

To apply, please download the departmental application form, print it, and submit the completed form together with all the required documents, including the UJ application form.

Applications may be submitted as follows:

  • Scan and email; or
  • Post or hand in to Heidi Scheepers, Sociology Higher Degrees Committee, Department of Sociology, University of Johannesburg, PO Box 524, Auckland Park, Johannesburg 2006, South Africa.

Please ensure that you enclose all the documents listed above, as incomplete applications cannot be processed. If all these requirements are met, we will inform you of the outcome of your application as soon as possible. Important: you should also complete the central UJ application process.

Deadlines
The deadline for applications is 1 November for South African students and 1 October for international students (though students presently completing their Bachelor's degree may supply their final academic record at a later stage).
International Students
International students are expected to visit the international office before finalising their registration. They have to provide evidence that they have a valid study permit and proof of medical insurance. The international office at the University of Johannesburg may be contacted at telephone number +27 11 559 2018 / 6667.
